The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a new federal program designed to help eligible Canadians access essential dental care. Foothills Crossing Dental Centre is proud to support CDCP patients and provide care in accordance with the program’s guidelines.

Our team makes the process simple by verifying your eligibility, following the CDCP fee guide, and handling all required billing paperwork on your behalf.

Who Is Eligible for the CDCP?

To qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, patients must meet the federal eligibility criteria:

  • Be a Canadian resident for tax purposes

  • Have no access to private dental insurance

  • Have an adjusted family net income under $90,000

  • Have filed a Canadian tax return for the previous year

  • Apply and be approved through the Government of Canada

What Services Are Covered?

Coverage varies based on individual oral health needs, but CDCP generally includes:

Exams

  • Complete exam: once every 60 months

  • Recall/specific exam: once every 12 months

  • Emergency exams: no limit

X‑Rays

  • Panoramic: once every 60 months

  • Intraoral X‑rays: up to 8 films every 12 months

Preventive Care

  • Scaling (amount varies by age)

  • Polishing (0.5 units per 12 months)

  • Fluoride treatments (frequency varies by age)

Restorative & Other Services

  • Fillings

  • Extractions

  • Root canals

  • Crowns*

  • Dentures*

  • Periodontal services

  • Oral surgery

  • Sedation

\*Crowns, dentures, and root canals may require pre‑approval from Sun Life (the CDCP administrator) before treatment begins.

CDCP Fee Guide vs. Alberta Fee Guide

The CDCP uses its own federal fee guide, which is lower than the Alberta Dental Association (ADA) fee guide used by many clinics.

This means:

  • If a clinic charges ADA fees, patients may pay the difference out of pocket.

  • If a clinic follows the CDCP fee guide, patients avoid additional costs.

Foothills Crossing Dental Centre will follow the CDCP fee guide for eligible patients to help minimize out‑of‑pocket expenses.
